SPS Post-Tension System Innovation since 1975

Benefits of the Post-Tension System

Our Post-Tension System enables glue-laminated beams to accommodate loads greater than the original design load capacity. Post-Tension Structural Reinforcement and Repair can:

  • Support additional loads such as air conditioning units, new ceilings, fire sprinklers, and mechanical equipment, thus increasing life safety by preventing failures and/or collapse.
  • Correct deficiencies in structural fabrication and design.
  • Prevent ponding of water on beams by eliminating sag along beam and or purlin lines.
  • Restore original strength to fire damaged glued-laminated beams.
  • Accommodate changes in building codes that previously allowed higher stresses.
  • Be more cost-effective than commonly used conventional reinforcement mothods, utilizing full-length wood or steel channel sister members, which require temporary shoring to alleviate existing stresses in member prior to reinforcement.
  • Be completed without removal and relocation of utilities, sprinklers, piping, HVAC and existing ceilings as required for conventional reinforcement methods.
  • Cause less disruption to business operations and yield a shorter construction time.

See How our Post-tensioning System Works

  • SPS Post-Tensioning System utilized to reinforce solid timber purlins to support new roof top HVAC equipment and miscellaneous piping.

  • System can be installed without removal and re-installation of sprinklers, most conduits, and/or other suspended elements below the roof deck.

  • SPS Post‑tensioning of both glued laminated beams and solid timber purlins in warehouse being converted into cold storage facility. Post‑tensioning of members will support new ceiling panels, piping, and coils.

  • More cost effective and shorter construction time required than a complete ground supported design.

  • Glu‑laminated beam failure in tension due to overstress from additional loads. – Suspended loads such as sprinklers, miscellaneous piping, conduits, ducting, lighting, and/or ceilings.

  • SPS repair and reinforcement of glu‑laminated beam that failed in tension due to overstress. Beam re‑elevated, repaired, and reinforced to current code. Work completed without major disruption to tenants’ operations, complete shoring of all supported purlins, roofing and deck removal and replacement. Removal of HVAC, electrical, and mechanical not required.
  • Significantly more cost effective.
  • Shorter construction time and tenant disruption.
