Many buildings constructed from the 1920s through the 1960s—featuring wood bowstring trusses, heavy-timber framing, and early-generation glue-laminated beams—now face stresses far beyond their original design intent. Additional roof loads, long-term deflection, environmental exposure, and outdated construction methods & materials all contribute to degradation that can compromise safety, functionality and may lead to disastrous outcomes if left without intervention.
